Professor Stephen Fava MD, MRCP(UK), FACP, FEFIM, FRCP(Lond), MPhil(Melit), FRCP(Lond) is a consultant in General Medicine, Diabetes & Endocrinology. He is also Head of the Diabetes & Endocrinology Centre at Mater Dei Hospital, Malta, which under his leadership attained the designation of Centre of Excellence by the International Diabetes Federation. He is also the President of the Association of Physicians of Malta.

Professor Fava is at forefront of diabetes research. He has over 100 publications, many of which in high impact international journals which have had an impact on diabetes care globally. He has written a number of book chapters on diabetes complications and has edited a book on kidney disease.

He is also an expert reviewer for a number of international journals. He has written invited editorials in top journals and edited special journal issues on various diabetes-related topics. He has served on the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Internal Medicine ((impact factor of 5.9) and the Maltese Medical Journal and was Lead Guest Editor for a special issue of the International Journal of Endocrinology (impact factor of 2.518). Prof. Fava is a member of the Editorial Board of journal Cardiovascular Diabetology- Endocrinology Reports.
