Dr. Dumitha Govindapala graduated with honours from the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, and obtained her MD in Medicine from the University of Colombo in 2012. She currently serves as a Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura and as an Honorary Consultant Physician at the Colombo South Teaching Hospital, Sri Lanka.
She has held key leadership positions within the Ceylon College of Physicians (CCP), including Honorary Joint Secretary (2018–2019), Treasurer (2022–2024), and serves as the official representative of the CCP at the European Federation of Internal Medicine. Dr. Govindapala is the Convener of MRCP PACES Steering Committee in Sri Lanka. She also serves on the National Advisory Committee for combating antimicrobial resistance and the Expert Committee to review dengue related deaths in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Govindapala is actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate education, curriculum development, and examinations. She serves on the Boards of Study in Medicine and Clinical Oncology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo, and is committed to mentoring and supporting early-career physicians through structured academic and leadership development.
Her research interests include infectious diseases, liver disease, and non-communicable diseases, particularly in resource-limited settings, with numerous peer-reviewed publications in these areas.
