Caterina Conte

Caterina Conte, MD, PhD, is a Full Professor of Internal Medicine at San Raffaele Roma University in Rome and Head of the Obesity and Obesity-related Cardiometabolic Complications Research Unit and Obesity Clinic at IRCCS MultiMedica in Milan, Italy. She received her MD from Sapienza University of Rome, completed her residency in Internal Medicine in 2012, and earned a PhD in Experimental Endocrine and Endocrine-Surgical Sciences from the Catholic University of Rome in 2016. Her training includes a research fellowship at the Center for Human Nutrition, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri (USA).
Her work focuses on integrating clinical care and research to address obesity and its cardiometabolic complications, including type 2 diabetes and sarcopenic obesity. She is actively involved in national and international scientific societies, including the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), the European Federation of Internal Medicine, the Italian Society of Internal Medicine, and the Italian Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery for Obesity. She contributes to academic education as a member of the EASD Training and Education Committee and as a member of the Executive Board of the Italian College of Academic Internal Medicine, with a focus on improving teaching, research, and clinical practice in Internal Medicine. She has published extensively in the field of obesity and metabolism and is a strong advocate for the recognition of obesity as a disease and for comprehensive strategies for its prevention and treatment.
