Sameer Kassem, MD, MSc, PhD, MPA, is Head of the Internal Medicine A Department at Carmel Medical Center in Haifa and a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion–Israel Institute of Technology. A specialist in internal medicine and endocrinology, his work focuses on the complex interplay between chronic disease—particularly diabetes—and comorbid conditions, with a growing emphasis on integrative, person-centered approaches to care.
Dr. Kassem is a leading partner in developing and evaluating integrative medicine models within hospital-based internal medicine and oncology settings. His clinical and research activities explore how modalities such as acupuncture and other integrative therapies can improve quality of life, resilience, and autonomic balance in patients with diabetes, cancer, and in frontline healthcare professionals during crises, including the COVID-19 pandemic and wartime.
An active researcher and educator, Dr. Kassem has authored numerous publications in high-impact journals, supervises MD, MSc, and PhD students, and holds key roles on national examination and accreditation committees in internal medicine and endocrinology. Trained at the Hebrew University (MD, MSc, PhD) and the Harvard Kennedy School (MPA), he brings together bedside experience, academic rigor, and system-level thinking to advance safer, more humane and more integrative internal medicine.
